I saw God tonight while reading a book with my 8-year old. The book is The Story of Ruby Bridges. It is the true story of a 6 year old girl sent into Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans to desegregate the school in 1960. Federal marshals had to escort her to and from school to keep her safe from the angry mob opposed to desegregation. Every day Ruby said this prayer on her way to and from school:
“Please, God, try to forgive those people. Because even if they say those bad things, they don’t know what they’re doing. So You could forgive them, just like You did those folks a long time ago when they said terrible things about You.”
