Over ten months ago my daughter was taken to the emergency room with pain so severe that it could not be managed at home. After several days in the hospital, followed by a couple of weeks of running back to the hospital every other day, Rachel was placed under hospice care. Her situation continued to decline very rapidly over several weeks, and by the end of December, her doctors took us aside and said that Rachel only had a few days left. That was quite an emotional time for our family, we had so much support from the community. We never had to worry about meals, company was always there asking for ways to help. Last night, Rachel spent the night at her brothers apartment. She has been swimming, shopping, going out with her friends, leaving her doctors standing in her dust, scratching their heads!! For whatever reason, we have been given more time, good time, with her. She isn’t relying as heavily on the wheelchair to get around, her days are no longer spent trying to just make it through another day! She bakes cookies, and cleans her room, spends quality time with her sisters… So, have a great day everyone. Things could always be worse. ♥
